Shauna is “perhaps something of an unusual combination in the music business – a grief support worker and educator who found music as a method for creative release, but turned it into an upstart and promising career” (Nanaimo Daily News, August 2015). The passion Shauna has for her work translates into her album - This Regal Heart (June 2016) - with themes about the strength of the human heart, resilience of the human spirit and reaching into the rough and beautiful places that are a catalyst for transformation and love.
This Regal Heart follows from Shauna’s self-recorded demo EP released in November 2014, in which her song Redwood was nominated Song of the Year at the 2015 Island Music Awards. This song and others are now offered with full studio production, produced and mixed by her and Jaye Watts at Victoria’s yourSOUNDSCAPE Studio, and mastered by Craig Waddell at Gotham City Studios, Vancouver (Sarah McLachlin, Heart, Delerium). |

In January of 2010 the musical styles of Jaye Watts and Shauna Janz fused to form the sounds of Vital Hands. Together, they gave life to a genre they called "Progressive Folk Rock" - and claimed a committed and fast-growing fan-base intrigued by their intricate and unique guitar stylings and unconventional approach. The album, released in late 2012, is filled with diverse sounds - from acoustic instrumentals, to raw vocal styles and provocative lyrics, to electronic elements. The two went their separate creative way after it's release, and in 2015 have again joined forces to record and co-produce songs from Shauna's solo project.
